Target a window to scroll by hovering over it

One of the features I like from X11 is the ability to target a window for whatever content manipulation by simply hovering over it. It is rare, though, that I need anything more than just the ability to scroll.

(More than) a few years ago, I ended up at eternallybored.org and downloaded the really cool WheelAltTab. I made a few changes to the source, like removing everything except the scrolling features, making it single run only, and changing the notification icon/menu.

The core functions are unchanged from Jernej Simončič’s original. I’ve re-complied it with the minor changes I mentioned above. At some point in the future, I might do a re-write using AutoIt.

As with all my little tools, use this one at your own risk as well. There’s not a lot in the way of error checking. Not that there’s much that could go wrong.  That said, I offer neither warranties nor guarantees that it’ll work with anything except my own PCs.

The app is written in AutoHotKey. It is virus and malware free. Since it is written in AutoHotKey, some AV scanners flag it as a false positive. When I ran it through VirusTotal on 6/25/2019, 52/69 AV engines found it to be clean. See the report here.
